Are We There Yet?

Have you ever been on a long vacation trip with your family? I remember when we would go on what seemed to be week long trips! This was a time before GPS systems and even before Mapquest (Website where you could print out directions for your trip)! I specifically remember the trips where my parents would drive at night time. I would be in the care watching dark trees or spooky old houses as we drove. At times there would be "short-cuts" that led past houses that looked like Leather Face occupied them. It was terrifying sitting and thinking about the things that could go wrong. Was there a gremlin on the side of the car damaging our brake system like the one from the Twilight Zone?
The only thing that would help to calm my fears was the fact of traveling with two people who had never let me down. My parents would not intentionally put us into a bad situation. If there was a gremlin they would take care of me. If Leather Face decided to show up they were going to take care of him and me! They had not let me down before and I did not see a reason for them beginning a new trend. They were PROVEN! They were BATTLE TESTED! And as far as I knew they were TRUTH!
Much in the same way we are on a journey as Christians towards heaven. We know that the journey seems long at times. We know that there are times when we are traveling in darkness. We see and hear things that are not actually there. We begin to make real what is fictional or has not happened yet to us. We would do well to understand that God has proven Himself time and time again when dealing with His people. I understand that a lot of folks would tell you to focus on the destination as if that was enough. But I believe at times that can be difficult as we have yet to see it. But if we just remember who is traveling with us then it makes the scary roads bearable. We can rest and be at peace on the bumpiest and darkest roads because of who is driving. It's not about knowing where you are going it's about who is with you along the way.
"...And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age." ~Matthew 28:20b~ NRSV
